I’m in NYC this week, and went tonight to see an Evensong at Saint Thomas Church, which was absolutely what I had hoped it would be. It is a male choir, and there are boys about as high as my boots (so…kind of high) singing gorgeous phrases, and the blend was perfection. I know there are plenty of choirs with boys around, but it never fails to make me feel like I’ve traveled back in time. I greatly enjoyed the music and, having sung many psalms, in many Episcopal churches, it struck me that I really enjoyed hearing them this time.
It was a joyful beginning to an evening that was really only downhill from there…culminating with me getting in a cab and saying “I don’t know where it is, I’m tired, and that’s why I got a cab”. Nothing like being in a big city to remind me that I definitely don’t live a pedestrian lifestyle anymore, and certainly don’t reap the health benefits. But why start now? 2 glasses of chianti and a bowl of pasta and bread should do the trick…
